In 2005, Inclusion Ireland was successful
in its application to the Department of Justice, Equality & Law
Reform Enhancing Disability Services Scheme. Under this project,
Inclusion Ireland received funding over two years to run an information & awareness
campaign on the issue of legal capacity & decision making by and for people
with an intellectual disability. Sarah Lennon has been employed by Inclusion
Ireland to coordinate the project.
The “Who Decides and How?” project is funded by the
Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform through the Enhancing
Disability Services scheme. The programme is being co-ordinated by
Training and Information Officer Sarah Lennon. The project will run
until December 2007.
The project will examine issues surrounding the capacity of people
with an intellectual disability to make decisions on their own behalf
and the role of families and service providers in such decisions.
The project will examine areas for reform in Irish law, such as the
Ward of Court system, and issues of capacity & consent in terms
of finance, medical treatment and relationships.
There will also be training seminars for families and service providers
as well as people with an intellectual disability themselves.
PLEASE NOTE THIS PROJECT FINISHED IN JUNE 2008
