In 2005 a further grant was received
through Comhairle to implement a Personal Advocacy Project over two
years. Under this project Inclusion Ireland employed an Advocate
(Gerald McCann) to act as a personal advocate.
This Project is funded by Comhairle as part of an initiative to
support the development of Advocacy Services in the community and
Voluntary sectors. The Project was developed as a joint Pilot Project
run by Inclusion Ireland and Comhairle. The Project enables people
with an intellectual disability to identify their needs and facilitates
choices for people with an intellectual disability.
The Project provides an Independent Personal Advocacy Service to
people with an Intellectual Disability in two residential services
that have agreed to act as a pilot site as project partners. The
two pilot sites are as follows:
- St Joseph's Intellectual Disability Services, St Ita's, Portrane,
Co Dublin
- Sisters of Charity of Jesus & Mary, Moore Abbey, Monasterevin,
Co Kildare
