Information on health services ahead of the nurses' strike

Nurses are back at work following strike action on Tuesday 5th and Thursday 7th February.  There are three further days of strike action planned for next week - on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  Here is some information relevant to people with intellectual disabilities and their families.

The HSE  has issued this general information and confirmed that public day centres and day hospitals for older people or people with disabilities will close and planned admissions, including respite and rehabilitation, to public community nursing units and specified centres for people with intellectual disability will be cancelled.

Residential care of older people and people with intellectual disability in centres operated by the HSE and specified agencies are not expected to be affected.

The Irish Times reports on the proposed further strike days and that respite services for people with intellectual disabilities and also the elderly will be taken into the dispute.
