Joanne O'Riordan organising UNCRPD demonstration in Dublin on March 30th

Disability rights activist Joanne O'Riordan - along with over 100 disability organisations - is planning a public demonstration in Dublin on Thursday, March 30th to highlight the 10-year anniversary of Ireland's failure to ratify the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD).

Leap to host ‘A Good Life for Everyone in the Family’ weekend in Cavan this April

Leap will be hosting a Family Leadership Adventure Break called ‘A Good Life for Everyone in the Family’ in The Cavan Centre, Ballyjamesduff, Co Cavan on Friday-Sunday April 7th-9th 2017.

The family leadership weekend is an opportunity for the whole family to come together in an inclusive, fun environment to begin to develop and share a vision of a good life for their son or daughter, brother or sister with a disability and for themselves.

The weekend costs €70 per person (all inclusive) so, for example, for a family of four the weekend costs €280.

Swinford Library and Cultural Centre to host Connect Family Network series in March-June

Inclusion Ireland will be providing four free training and information talks for parents, siblings, friends and carers of children and adults with an intellectual disability in Mayo in the coming months.

The series will cover four talks on community living, assisted decision-making and practical advocacy supports.

All talks will take place in Swinford Library and Cultural Centre, Swinford, Co Mayo.

Tea/coffee will be provided and there will be an opportunity to network with other family member and additional information will be available at our information stand.

'Personal Budgets - Towards a Good Life' seminar - Ashling Hotel, Dublin, 19th April

The Centre for Disability Law and Policy (CDLP), Inclusion Ireland and LEAP will host a seminar 'Personal Budgets – Towards a Good Life' in the Ashling Hotel, Parkgate Street, Dublin 8 on Wednesday, April 19th 2017 (10.00am to 4.00pm).

This seminar will bring together experts to discuss how personal budgets can be used as an enabler of good lives.

This event is suitable for persons with a disability, family members, policy makers and professionals.

The event will cost €20 for people with a disability and family members, €50 for professionals.

Community Hub for Assistive Technology (CHAT) to hold gathering in ChildVision

Community Hub for Assistive Technology (CHAT) will be holding their next gathering in ChildVision in Drumcondra, Dublin 9 on Wednesday, 26th April.

CHAT is a community of practice driven by people who share a passion and believe in the transformative effect that assistive technology has on individual's lives.

CHAT raises awareness of barriers (inaccessibility) and looks at assistive technologies that will help to create a groundswell of support needed to overcome inconsistencies in the provision of assistive technology in Ireland.

Connect Family Network - Killarney, Co Kerry, Wednesday, May 3rd

The Connect Family Network is holding a free event in the KDYS Youth Centre, Fairhill, Killarney, Co Kerry on Wednesday, May 3rd (11.00am to 1.00pm). 

There will be information on the Assisted Decision-Making Act 2015 and advocate with the National Advocacy Service (NAS) for people with disabilities, Mary Carroll, will give information on their service.  The event is also a good opportunity to connect with other family members and share experiences and issues.
