A major disability conference will tomorrow hear what supports people with an intellectual disability need to participate fully in society. But the difference between this conference and others is that tomorrow, it will be people with a disability themselves doing the talking. The annual Inclusion Ireland 2008 Self-Advocacy conference will hear people with an intellectual disability speak about what supports they need to fully participate in Irish society. Speakers and delegates will come from across the country to discuss major issues such as independent living and managing money. This is Inclusion Ireland’s fourth Self-Advocacy conference. Among the speakers is Andrew Doyle, who is Chair of the European Platform for Self-Advocates. Labour Leader Eamon Gilmore and Disability Minister John Moloney will also address the conference. An open forum will close the conference, with several CEOs of major organisations taking questions from the floor.
While many serious issues will be discussed, it will also be a very lively event, with samba drummers coming from the Cope Foundation in Cork, participating on both days. The Inclusion Ireland Self-Advocacy Conference always brings plenty of lively debate and 2008 will be no different!
